This hot fudge cake comes together like magic to create its own sauce, and it takes only minutes to put together. I mix everything up in the baking dish to save a bowl.
Preheat the oven to 350 and grease an 8 X 8 baking dish. Use the dish or a bowl to mix the following ingredients together:
1 c. flour
3/4 c. sugar
2 T. cocoa
2 t. baking powder
1/4 t. salt
Stir in:
1/2 c. milk
2 t. oil
1 t. vanilla
Spread the mixture in bottom the pan. Sprinkle over the batter:
1 c. brown sugar
4 T. cocoa
Pour 1 3/4 c. of water over the whole thing, but don’t stir it up!
Bake the cake at 350 for 35-40 minutes. The shorter baking time gives more of a hot fudge consistency, while a longer baking time yields a thicker sauce, more like pudding. Serve hot fudge cake warm with ice cream or whipped cream if desired. As much as I don’t like cake and ice cream together, this one works really well. (Don’t hurt me! I know that opinion is unpopular. I said what I said, though.)
