I used to make baked chips in the oven, but they took too long for me to make them very often. The air fryer takes care of this problem completely! Though air fryer tortilla chips don’t taste exactly like fried chips, they still satisfy my chip cravings.
The Tortilla Chips
Cut into 6ths:
15 corn tortillas
Arrange the tortilla pieces in a single layer in the air fryer and spray them lightly with oil.
Air fry the first batch of chips for 7 minutes, shaking the pan halfway through. For subsequent batches, start checking at 4 minutes for doneness.
As soon as the tortilla chips come from the air fryer, toss them in a bowl with salt or whatever seasonings. I particularly love using Kernel Season’s popcorn seasonings in the nacho, ranch, or white cheddar flavors. Serve with your favorite dip or salsa or just eat them as is! Or, just add a little salt and make nacho cheese.
The Nacho Cheese
Toss together in a saucepan:
3 oz. jack (or other mild, white cheese) shredded
3 oz. cheddar cheese, shredded
4 T. chopped, pickled jalapenos, omitting if you want mild sauce
2 t. cornstarch
Stir in remaining ingredients and heat until bubbly:
3/4 c. milk
2 t. hot sauce
pinch salt
Serve with tortilla chips.
