Savory Ground Beef Stroganoff

This is not the stroganoff with ground beef that Hamburger Helper makes! It is far better and absolutely delicious. My husband loves it, and he didn’t used to like stroganoff very much. I’ve browsed lots of recipes online, but what really sold me were the special “secret ingredients” in the sauce.

Cook 1 lb. of egg noodles according to package directions.

Cook until browned:

1/2 lb. ground beef (I used 85/15)

1/2 t. paprika

Remove from the pan and saute until browned and crispy (12-15 minutes):

1 lb. sliced mushrooms (Baby bellas are excellent.)

Add and stir until starting to brown:

1 onion, chopped

3 cloves garlic, minced

Add the meat back to the pot and stir in all of the following:

3/4 c. chicken or beef broth

1 T. each of soy sauce, fish sauce, Worcestershire sauce, and Dijon mustard

Make sure to scrape the bottom to deglaze the pot. Whisk together and add to the pot:

1 c. sour cream and 2 T. cornstarch

Stir until the sauce is thickened. Serve the ground beef stroganoff with the cooked noodles.

Ingredients
  

  • 1 pound egg noodles
  • 1/2 pound ground beef 85/15
  • 1/2 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 pound mushrooms sliced
  • 1 onion chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic minced
  • 3/4 cup chicken or beef broth
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon fish sauce
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch

Instructions
 

  • Cook the noodles according to package directions.
    1 pound egg noodles
  • Cook the ground beef and paprika until the meat is browned. Remove to a plate.
    1/2 pound ground beef, 1/2 teaspoon paprika
  • Saute the mushrooms until browned and crispy. It will take 12-15 minutes. Add the onion and stir until it starts to brown, then add the garlic and stir for 1 minute.
    1 pound mushrooms, 1 onion, 3 cloves garlic
  • Add the meat back to the veggies and stir in the broth and "secret ingredients."
    3/4 cup chicken or beef broth, 1 tablespoon soy sauce, 1 tablespoon fish sauce, 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce, 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
  • Whisk the sour cream and cornstarch together, then add them to the meat. Stir until the sauce thickens, then serve it over the noodles.
    1 cup sour cream, 2 tablespoons cornstarch
