This is not the stroganoff with ground beef that Hamburger Helper makes! It is far better and absolutely delicious. My husband loves it, and he didn’t used to like stroganoff very much. I’ve browsed lots of recipes online, but what really sold me were the special “secret ingredients” in the sauce.
Cook 1 lb. of egg noodles according to package directions.
Cook until browned:
1/2 lb. ground beef (I used 85/15)
1/2 t. paprika
Remove from the pan and saute until browned and crispy (12-15 minutes):
1 lb. sliced mushrooms (Baby bellas are excellent.)
Add and stir until starting to brown:
1 onion, chopped
3 cloves garlic, minced
Add the meat back to the pot and stir in all of the following:
3/4 c. chicken or beef broth
1 T. each of soy sauce, fish sauce, Worcestershire sauce, and Dijon mustard
Make sure to scrape the bottom to deglaze the pot. Whisk together and add to the pot:
1 c. sour cream and 2 T. cornstarch
Stir until the sauce is thickened. Serve the ground beef stroganoff with the cooked noodles.
