Chocolate Frozen Yogurt (Milk or Dark)

Though I’m a diehard ice cream fan, once in a while, I like something a little different. I’m definitely a fan of making my own yogurt or at least buying it by the quart. I recently came across some heavily discounted yogurt that I decided to freeze before it expired. Naturally, I had to start with chocolate frozen yogurt. Don’t expect the creaminess of ice cream. It’s more grainy (in a good way) and deliciously tangy, the perfect complement to the chocolate flavor. Naturally, I thought it was perfect and my husband wanted it a little less chocolaty. This is a common conversation in our house. 🙂

Use a mixer or whisk to combine all of the following ingredients:

2 c. whole milk

3/4 c. sugar

2/3 c. brown sugar

1/2 – 1 c. Dutch process cocoa powder (like Hershey’s Special Dark). Why is this important? Read this article for more information. Use less for milk chocolate and more for dark.

1 qt. whole milk plain yogurt

1 T. vanilla

Churn according to the manufacturer’s directions. Enjoy chocolate frozen yogurt as a soft serve or freeze it for a couple of hours for a harder texture.
